ITEM business concept presented at The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE) Atlanta Chapter
Atlanta, GA April 26, 2006 --
GxWorks, a technology consulting firm specializing in service-oriented architecture, presented the
business concept behind the Incentivized Travel Expense Management system (ITEM) at The IndUS
Entrepreneurs (TiE) Atlanta chapter meeting held today. GxWorks Director of Business Development
Praveen Ghanta presented ITEM's expense target based approach as the next logical step in expense
management. He further emphasized that incentives have been successfully utilized by the federal
government to reduce T&E expenses since the late 90's.
GxWorks' Ghanta stated, "Companies incentivize their salespeople to sell; why don't they incentivize
their employees to save?" He then described how ITEM enables corporations to incentivize their
employees to reduce travel expenses by first setting expense targets for every travel expense, and
by then rewarding those employees who keep their expenses below target while on a business trip.
Ghanta continued, "In this instance, the Federal government beat the private sector to this
concept - Federal employees have been able to earn rewards for cutting travel costs for over 7
years. The concept behind ITEM is to simply make this approach available in the corporate world."
Incentivized Travel Expense Management, or ITEM, provides a unique approach to T&E management by
using expense benchmarks to both incentivize lower travel spending and to pinpoint areas of
excessive spending. ITEM provides online expense reporting with the addition of expense targets
that are calculated for every trip. Travel managers can use ITEM's expense targets to find cost
drivers, and can also incentivize employees to spend below targets, generating savings for the
company and rewards for the employee. Clients can use ITEM to provide complete expense management
functionality, or they can integrate ITEM with existing T&E systems to take advantage of ITEM's
benchmarking and incentive capabilities.
